Black Sabbath Volume 2- 1978a1992
Em 1979, devido à irreversível conflito com outros membros da banda, Osbourne foi despedido pela sua tendência para o abuso de drogas e álcool. Após a saída de Osbourne, o grupo não apresentou uma formação sólida, atingindo muitas vezes, o ponto de instabilidade e assolando vários músicos durante a sua próxima carreira.
A despedida de Ozzy Osbourne, no entanto, preocupou a banda, pois ele contribuiu muito para o desempenho das canções e acima de tudo foi um grande animador do público durante os concertos ao vivo, e depois, encontrar um substituto digno foi difícil. Após a sua saída, ele foi substituído por Ronnie James Dio, ex-vocalista das bandas Elf e Rainbow.

Black Sabbath Volume 1-O embrião do Black Sabbath surgiu no ano de 1966 em Aston, uma localidade de Birmingham, Inglaterra. A história começou quando o guitarrista Anthony "Tony" Iommi e o baterista William "Bill" Ward (ambos do grupo Mithology) leram em uma loja, o anúncio de um cantor que foi à procura de músicos para formar uma banda. O cantor era John "Ozzy" Osbourne que foi um rival de Iommi durante a escola. Iommi e Ward foram para casa de Ozzy e decidiram formar um complexo musical. Osbourne levou ao grupo, outros dois músicos que tinham tocado com ele na banda Rare Breed: os guitarristas Terence "Geezer" Butler e Jimmy Phillips.
